Abstract:
In the first part of my talk, it demonstrates defect pairing to be an origin of the novel “d0 magnetism”in C or N doped MgO and ZnO [1]. In the second part, it studies an uncommon failure of Jahn-Teller physics in the charge and orbital ordered La0.5Sr1.5MnO4 [2], and addresses a spin blockade and orbital multiplet states in the layered La1.5Sr0.5CoO4 [3]. All the presented results are based on density
functional calculations, with electron-correlation corrections and a hybrid functional when applicable, as well as cluster model multiplet calculations.
